The media constantly reminds us of everything terrible going on in the world – political unrest, climate change, plastic pollution, rising rates of mental health issues – yet they do very little to empower or inspire us. The fact is that there are a lot of bad things happening across the globe, but what the media often fails to tell you is that:
- There are good things happening to! (If you need proof of this, I really recommend reading Positive News)
- There aren’t many issues that we can’t do something about.
The way we currently live isn’t sustainable – humanity is having devastating impacts on the planet. Air pollution, climate change, deforestation, plastics in the oceans… it’s all because of us. We want to own everything, want everything bigger and better – fancy cars and houses, flights around the world, the latest fashion trends. But the fact is that all this stuff and material crap isn’t making us happy.
My name is Abi, I’m 26 and I work in the charity sector. I also freelance write for an environmental news site called curious.earth, which is all about making environmental news simple and accessible for all.
I don’t want to spend my life worrying about these issues, and I don’t want my little sisters to grow up thinking the world is a bad place, or that they’re not good enough. In fact, I don’t want anyone to feel disempowered or overwhelmed by all the negativity – so that’s why I write this blog.
Sustainabi is my way of trying to spread some positivity – by sharing good news stories and tips and ideas on how each of us can live happier, more sustainable lives. My blog didn’t start off this way and is constantly a work in progress, so if you have any feedback I’d love to hear it!
